Content Management System (CMS)

A content management system (CMS) is a program used to create a framework for the content of a Web site. With most CMS’s, the framework can be customized with a “skin” that defines the look & feel of the site. The CMS approach is often significantly more cost effective in the long run as all updates can be made “in house”.

Easily editable content

Once your content is separated from the visual presentation of your site, it usually becomes much easier and quicker to edit and manipulate. Most CMS software include WYSIWYG editing tools allowing non-technical individuals to create and edit content.

To stay competitive in this day and age, websites need to be far more than a static brochure. A website that has interesting articles which may be of interest to your customers will generate return visits, as well as offer greater search engine indexing opportunities. Search engines love content and by adding new content regularly you are increasing the opportunity for your site to be found by visitors searching to buy, or find information about your product, or area of expertise.

For example perhaps you offer life coaching services or a solution to garden pests and diseases. By adding a CMS to your site you could add client testimonials or case studies. Some CMS allow the facility for visitors to add comments or ask questions adding a degree of interactivity to your site. Beware though of adding content indiscriminately. Quality is still more important than quantity.
